1984-1996 C4 Corvette Sunvisor Installation

Are you afraid of going topless? With your C4 Corvette, that is! How many times have you wanted to drop the top on your car on a beautiful sunny day but your worn and torn Corvette sunvisors were just too ugly to show. So instead, you settle for just rolling down the windows. But isn’t this being a bit obsessive about the appearance of your Corvette? For Vette owners, that answer is no. Although worn visors are not a major problem, it can be a nuisance to the discriminating C4 Corvette owner. After all, we take great pride in the appearance of our cars.

You can do away with the displeasing old visors and treat your C4 Corvette to a pair of new original replacement sunvisors from Zip Corvette Parts like we did. We replaced our ragged, old sunvisors in about 30 minutes. The only tools needed were a Phillips screwdriver, a small flat-bladed screwdriver, and a small pointed awl. It is a good idea to go ahead and order the spring clip that retains the sunvisor because more than likely the original will break upon removal. So gather your tools, order your Corvette parts, and let’s get started!

Step 1

01: As you can see, the 1996 Corvette coup sunvisors were in horrible condition. Definitely time to be replaced! Original sunvisors had a cardboard inner structure. Over time the cardboard collects moisture and becomes deformed with just the easiest pull into position.

Step 2

02: After pulling the top, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws holding your Corvette’s interior header molding in place. You will also have to remove your rearview mirror.

Step 3

03: Now remove the top cover, which is retained by two Phillip screws. There is a lip on this trim piece that slides under the interior header molding.

Step 4

04: You can now see the clip that retains the visor. With a small flat-head screwdriver and pointed awl, pry off the clip, then the washer that has gripping teeth on it. Be careful so you can reuse the washer. There is a spring underneath which also needs to be reused with the new visors.

Step 5

05: Once the clips and springs are removed, your C4 Corvette’s sunvisor is ready to come out, but you still have to unplug it if you have a lighted mirror.

Step 6

06: Here are the C4 Corvette Parts we received from Zip Corvette. New reproduction C4 Corvette sunvisors with left hand side map strap and right hand side vanity mirror. Zip Corvette also included the sunvisor retainer with nut to complete the installation.

Step 7

07: After plugging in the new visor, insert it back through the hole in the sunvisor mount. Don’t forget to put it through the hole in the interior header panel first. Once you have it in the mount, put on the spring, then the large washer retainer. A 10mm deep socket can be used to compress the retainer over the visor stud, then reinstall the small retaining nut and use the same method with the 10mm socket to push it over the stud.

Step 8

08: Now reinstall the top cover. Be sure to put the lip of the cover under the edge of the interior header molding. Once you have done this, reinstall the header panel and then finally the rear view mirror. Now you can take that top off whenever the sun is out and not be embarrassed by those terrible looking Corvette sunvisors.
