Great Race 2024 – From Kentucky to Maine

The 2024 Great Race is in the books! As always, it was an impressive run spanning 13 states! Our friends at Coker Tire are the presenting sponsor for this annual event, and Zip was thrilled to sponsor one of the race vehicles – a 1967 Corvette driven by the father/son team of Randall and Todd Hendrix from Florida.

Held each summer at the end of June, the Great Race is the ultimate time, speed and distance rally designed for classic cars. Originally, it was a two-week, cross-country torture test for vehicles built before World War II. But rules changed with the times and the cut-off year incrementally progressed. Now, 40 years later, the cut-off year is 1974, which opens the field for 1950’s classics, muscle cars and more. Corvettes are a natural fit, as the cars handle and perform well and typically withstand the rigors of the nine-day, 2,300-mile road rally.

The route changes every year, and for 2024, the Great Race travelled from Owensboro, Kentucky to Gardiner, Maine, hitting 13 states along the way.

This year’s winners were Howard and Doug Sharp, a father-and-son team from Fairport, New York. They campaign a 1916 Hudson, which is fashioned after a Pikes Peak Hill Climb racer. The duo, who are now five-time Great Race Grand Champions, took home the $50,000 grand prize.
