Jeff, If you have original door panels on your Corvette remove them and spray the back of them with water. Because the cardboard is protected you are going to have to get them really wet. Once you have done this place the door panel on the ground with the back facing up. Put a small amount of weight (we use a 5 gallon bucket half full of water) on the door panel and allow it to dry like this. Once dry it should be reshaped so that it is no longer bowing from the door. If you have the reproduction plastic backed door panels use the same procedure but instead of spraying with water, just sit them out in the sun to get them warm and flexible and then bring them inside and sit the bucket on them until they cool.

The knob unscrews, it may be difficult because of the amount of time it has been on your Corvette's shifter. Use some penetrating oil and spray the underside of the knob on the threads. You may have to use a rag and some channel locks on the knob depending on how frozen it is. Luckily the knobs are plastic and the new ones are cheap if it is damaged during removal.

Any suggestions on how to get the front \"velcro\" fasteners on the door panels of a 1976 Corvette coupe to stay \"joined\" together? It seems as if the door panels had just a bit more bend or curve in this area the tension on the fasteners would be relieved enough to allow them to remain connected. Any way to reform the door panels? Personally, if I were not interested in showing this car as an original \"survivor\", I\'d put a screw in both panels in this area with a plastic finishing cap to solve this problem. While there is no functional problem leaving these 2 fasteners \"unjoined\", It bugs me that the door panels don\'t attach as they should. Can you provide a solution?

You have to have the key for it in order to remove the lock. There is a little pin in the lock, when you turn the key you can depress it and the lock will pop out. If you do not have the key you will have to cut it out.

Great article! It has been very helpful on my 1979 Corvette. You might mention to be very careful with the indicator on the automatic. I took it out slowly and just kept thinking be careful. I set it down out of the way and then the next day when I was cleaning it I broke it. I drilled a hole and used epoxy to set a new pin in. I have everything in except the center console between the seats. The shifter knob wont budge, any ideas? Thanks Leif
