If it were a small block with a tall intake it would, but not a big block. You will have to use a high rise hoods. Zip sells one that looks the same as your stock hood but is 2 3/4 higher.
Thanks

Just completed a 73 BB roadster with stock hood. I used a gen 4 454 block with stock cast iron small oval port heads and a Torker II intake. The Torker II measured height was very close to the stock manifold. That and a 800CFM holley (too small in CFM's, BTW) toped the engine with a stock type air cleaner. I think I got a dropped base bottom to give me a little more air cleaner. This all cleared the stock hood. I was concerned about low end torque with that single plane manifold but car drives very nice. Any dual plane manifold will be too high. You can see a lot of the restoration in these pics.

I ran a nice aluminum radiator from Eklers, a Edelbrock high flow pump and 190 thermostat. Car sits and runs at 190. I was amazed. Lot of heat thru floor though.

Thanks for responce, You have done a great job, car looks better than new. I measured my engine compartment and thought it would work, but its easy to miss something. would hate to get to the end and not have hood close. I am currently cleaning up a gen 1V 4 bolt main to rebuild. on our way. The only thing I am looking at different is aluminum heads, probably edelbrock. Also edelbrock 860 carb and sidepipes. I have a 76 now with a 383 stroker. It makes lots of heat as well.

It all depends on the intake, if you use a hirise intake it will not clear. IF you use a LS6 style intake it will clear but you are still going to have to use a drop based air cleaner.
