Re:67 corvette temp gauge not registering right temp 2 Weeks, 4 Days ago
Thanks for the tip on the correct sender but I have more problems to find out. I did have the wrong sender in the manifold so I installed a new correct one. Brought the temp up and I found out that it runs 230 going down the road. I checked the temp at the thermostat housing with a laser temp gun it reads 229. changed thermostat 180 degree but still runs 230.
The motor has been bored out 40 over but did not think that would cause it to run that hot. May have to rebuild another block because I would like to put the factory air back in. It is a 427 engine sure did not think that they run that hot.
Thanks for the information

I have read your hints about the 68. I have not had a lot of time to check out the other things right now.
I am going to have to check out the carb and ignition. I have driven this car about 4500 miles in the last year not knowing it was running this hot. It never spewed over so
i just assummed that the temp was ok wrong on my part. Thank YOu for information I will keep in touch when I figure out what is wrong.

Make sure that your radiator is up to par, you also need to check the fan clutch, when you open the hood you should feel the air blowing off the fan, if not the clutch is bad. Also do you have a shroud on the car?

Thanks for the tips. The radiator is new. ordered from Gm back in 1995. Was in the packing till it was installed in the car. Took cap off and checked to see if fluid anti freeze was being sucked down when reving motor up. Radiator cap is the correct one correct fan shroud and new fan clutch. You know how you can pick up a corvette catalog and oreder anything you want and it is suppose to be correct. HAAAAAA. I have the distributor and the carb in the shop. I am having the Distributor recurved to full advance at 3000 rpm and the carb jets and power valves checked for correctness to the size of the motor. So I am going to have to wait till I get them back to check the fan clutch but I hear it roar when I rev it up and it is warm. Been dincking with old vettes for 35 years 3rd big block car I have had. but this one has me stumped. Maybe the temp will go down after I get the carb and dist back. Will let know when I get it back together. Big car show in Topeka this weekend so the 67 may have to stay home. But I can drive the ole 59. Oh how sweet a 283 sounds. But not like the thump of a big block 427.LOL
