Mike
Longbine says he searched a long time before finding just the right car for
his first Corvette. “I had a good idea what I wanted,” Mike explains. “A red
‘82. Sure the ‘80 and ’81 are basically identical, but the ‘82 has a few
extras going for it. First of all, there were less than half as many 82s made
than the earlier years, unless you go way back. The 1982 was the first
for Crossfire Injection. I know, there is a lot of controversy about this particular
injection system, yet I like it because mine functions flawlessly and it
adds to the rarity of this car. The ‘82 was also the first car to be built in
the Bowling Green plant and the last year for the C3.” Mike’s ’82 has
yet another rare item, the cloth interior, which he was told was a special
order. “Many people comment on what a nice job I did with the interior,
so they usually get a chuckle when I tell them it's factory – until they see
the sticker.” With only 11,800 miles, Mike’s Corvette is factory original from
the “tits still on the tires to the tip of the antenna!” It has never been rained
on or stayed outside over night. “Yeah, it's a little spoiled but that's OK,”
Mike says, “because I like keeping it happy.”
