C4 Corvette Seat Track Replacement

Learn how to replace your C4 Corvette's power seat tracks: The 1984 Corvette was an engineering marvel to the automotive community, and the following years showed vast improvements. By the end of C4 production, the 1996 model was the best Corvette ever produced. But now that these cars are starting to get some age on them, some of their weaknesses are starting to emerge. One of these happens to be the seat tracks. The power seats that came in the 1984-1996 C4 Corvettes were capable of moving the seat in six different directions. However, these new seat tracks used plastic gears, and with age the gears eventually break. This can be very embarrassing or very cumbersome, especially for those who drive with the seat all the way forward or back.
In this article, we are going to replace the seat track in our 1991 Corvette. Follow along and we will show you how easy it is to fix your broken seat tracks with rebuilt seat tracks from Zip Corvette Parts, 8067 Fast Lane, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, 1-800-962-9632. This procedure should only take the average hobbyist 30 minutes per seat. You will need small and medium flat-bladed screwdrivers, a 13mm socket, 13mm wrench, and a set of needle-nose pliers.

C4 Corvette Seat Track Replacement 01: First, locate the spring clip that locks the front of the seat cushion. It is located in the front of the seat frame towards the bottom of the seat. Run your hand down the front of the seat frame to locate it. As a reference, here is a picture after it is removed. Unsnap it from the seat frame, using a small flat-bladed screwdriver if needed. Once the clip is removed, push down on the back of the bottom cushion and it will pop out.
C4 Corvette Seat Track Replacement 02: With the seat cushion removed, disconnect the plug with two wires that go to the sport seat controls. If your Corvette is not equipped with sport seats, you can skip this step.
C4 Corvette Seat Track Replacement 03: Using a 13mm socket wrench, remove the four bolts that hold the seat frame to the seat tracks. Then remove the seat from the car.

04: Now locate and disconnect the plug for the tracks. It will have six wires and is located on the floor underneath the seat track.
C4 Corvette Seat Track Replacement 05: Again using your 13mm socket, remove the four nuts that hold the seat track to the floor. Once they are off, you can remove the seat track and get ready to install the rebuilt track. Please note that you will have to remove the plastic track covers from the front to gain access to the front two nuts. These are held in with plastic push clips, so use a pair of pliers to pull them out and the covers will slide right off.

C4 Corvette Seat Track Replacement 07: Place the new track over the studs in the floorboard in the same position as the old track. Bolt the track in place and cut the plastic strap around the track.
C4 Corvette Seat Track Replacement 08: Now reconnect the six-wire connector to the seat track and replace the plastic covers and their push pins.
