Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement Has this ever happened to you? You turn on your turn signal lever, make your turn and the lever does not come back tot he neutral position. Your turn signal just keeps flashing. Just to check it you try it again and it still doesn't return. The problem you have, in most instances, is that your Corvette's turn signal canceling cam is broken. When the cam breaks, it will not allow the turn signal to cancel and return the lever to the neutral position. If you have a 63 to 82 Corvette, the cure for this problem is a phone call and about 2 hours of labor away. Zip Products, Inc., 8067 Fast Lane, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, 1-800-692-9632, has all of the correct turn signal canceling cams for the 63 to 82 Corvettes in stock. We had this problem in our project 64 so just follow this article and we will show you just how easy it is to repair.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 01: Here is all you will need:  A new canceling cam, marking pen, torque wrench (ft. lbs), 1/2" extension 6" Long, 3/4" 1/2" Drive Socket, 9/16" and 1/2" open end wrench, Phillips screwdriver and a steering wheel puller.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 02: Start by disconnecting the battery.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 03: Remove the horn button and the horn contact plate.  Also, make sure the turn signal lever is in the neutral position.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 04: Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.  Now mark the steering shaft and place a corresponding mark on the steering wheel.  You do this so that you can re-align the wheel and steering shaft back into their exact place.  If you do not do this, the steering wheel will not be centered when you re-install it.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 05: Install the steering wheel puller and remove the steering wheel.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 06: Remove the canceling cam from the back of the steering wheel.  For comparison, we are showing you the new cam on the right and the old broken cam.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 07: Before you re-assemble the steering wheel and canceling cam, check the turn signal switch canceling pawl.  In some instances the canceling pawl ends may be broken.  If this is the case, you will have to replace the turn signal switch.  Zip Products also has these in stock.  If both pawls are not broken, then proceed with re-assembling the wheel.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 08: Install the new canceling cam onto your wheel.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 09: Make sure the turn signal lever is in the neutral (center) position and re-align the steering wheel to the mark you made on the steering shaft.  You must make sure they are aligned or your wheel will not be centered.  Install the steering wheel retaining nut and torque it to 35-40 ft. lbs.  Check your shop manual for torque settings for different years.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 10: Re-align the horn contact plate with the horn contact button and re-install.
Corvette Cancelling Cam Replacement 11: Snap on the horn button, re-connect the battery and you are all set to go.
