63-67 Corvettes

1966 Corvette

I wanted to share with you 3 photos of my 1966 Corvette Sting Ray that I have wanted for over 50 Years. It all started when I picked up my first new Chevrolet in 1964, I was given the keys to a 1964 Corvette to take for a ride. That is all it took, I said one day I would own a Sting Ray of my own. Here is my 1966 Trophy Blue Sting Ray 327/350, 4 speed, dream come true.

Thank you,

1963 Corvette

1963 Corvette coupe. I found this car in San Fernando in 2001, body, frame and a nice tub job and a roll bar, nothing else. I removed the body from the frame and undercoated the body red. Stripped the Corvette down to the bare fiberglass and painted it two stage Corvette torch red. New tinted glass, all reworked stainless trim, added a billet front grill, removed the front bumpers and filled in the mounting holes. All new chrome and emblems. Reworked the power windows (the car came with them), added autometer gauges and a ratchet transmission shifter. The injection system was set up to be street driven and has never been on a race track. The Corvette was completed in 2005. It was built in Palmdale California by Bruce Frappied, Bob Gagliano, Ed Morassini and some help from me.

The Corvette has the following modifications: 468 chevy engine with all the good stuff inside, bullit cam, 11:1 compression, AFR heads ported, crower injection with hilborn electronics, Jacobs Electronics and Mallory pulleys and pump. The alternator is by March. The radiator is by Mattson Customs. Wiring by m&h, brakes - four wheel disc by Baer Aircraft, wheel and steering wheel by Budnik, axels by Moser, front suspension and rack and pinion by Morrison, rearend - 9 inch ford coil over 411 detroit locker by Mark Williams, transmission - 200 R-4 by Bowtie Overdrive, seats by Glide, paint by Creative Auto Works Palmdale, powder coating by Primo. I hope this gives you enough info. If you need anything else or are interested in my car, please let me know. Thanks Burke Chaplin - 626-444-4159

Here’s my shot at the story:

Owning a Corvette has been my obsession since I was a boy. My dreams have always been bigger than my wallet though, and I found myself in my 40s still without a Corvette in the garage. Then the phone rang. “Would you consider trading your unfinished 1934 street rod for a non-driver project 1964 Corvette?” the caller asked.  “Wait where you are. I am coming with my trailer to swap.” I replied.

The 1964 Fuel Injected 375 hp W/close ratio 4 speed  was mine. A 64 -- the year of my birth.  Not the 67 with a 427 and  the tri power with the stinger hood I had always wanted, but not too shabby for a working man with little chance of owning a C-2 short of winning the lottery.

My dream 64 came home on a flatbed and more boxes of parts than you could count.  It was all there I was told.We have all heard that before when taking on another disassembled project, Three years later I’m still looking for the box marked: passenger door assembly.  I’m pretty handy around the garage and did all the work myself, except the final paint Base coat clear coat of Ermine White, It was done by Vision Auto of Vancouver WA, the engine rebuilt by Rick Adams of Vancouver WA, and all machine work done by Toms Performance Machine of Vancouver WA.  The FI unit was restored by Gary at RamJet in Salem Or. Thanks to these people for the help and a great understanding wife to let it all come together.

This past Father’s Day, I fired my Fuelie up and took it for a spin – my first ride in my Corvette or any Corvette for that matter.  These cars were made to drive and I’ve been driving mine every chance I get.

Thanks for allowing me to share my story. Zip is my is my favorite place to by my parts, and was instrumental in the restoration of my ‘64 and making my dreams come true.

Attached are some pictures of my 67 Corvette Convertible. I've owned this car for 35 years and have had that many years of fun. The car has been painted twice in 35 years and I just went through the motor completely. I bought this car after I came back from Viet Nam, and the first time I laid my eyes on it, it was in the process of being stolen, but that's another story. I'm the 3rd owner of this car and have mostly kept it stock over the years, but I do drive it when I'm in town. One of the best compliments I ever got while driving the car was when I was stopped at a light and a guy came up on my side and said, "now that's a convertible". Thanks for considering me for "Reader Rides".

The last in a line of six Corvettes for Jim and Miriam Driggers is this mostly original ’63, a Riverside Red example with a 350 four-speed, stock AM/FM radio (but with a modern Sony in the glovebox, and Direct Bolt-on Knockoffs that were a Christmas present. Currently, the Driggers are in the process of adding a stable-mate to the ’63: "In august, which will be out 30th wedding anniversary, we hope to be on the road from Bowling Green after picking up our seventh Corvette, a Millennium Yellow C5 coupe with a six-speed," say the Driggers. "Then we’re heading up the eastern seaboard before heading back home to Spokane, WA."

Bob Gregory says his big-block ’65 Coupe "Gets the thumbs-up from people eight to 80." And no wonder. Bob’s Nassau Blue Corvette is a beauty with aluminum knock-offs, sidepipes, and gold stripe tires. Mostly stock, the ’65 does have some minor custom touches like the triple taillights, molded wheelwells, and chromed roof and cowl vents. Power by the 425-horsepower 396, the car is a performer too. "It’s a real head-turner," Bob admits. "Nothing sounds like a big-block breathing through sidepipes!"

Here is a picture of COL(ret) Army Wardell G. Baker and Grandson Brandon, 12 months, talking about their Vettes. We have a 98 Vette, convertible parked in the garage. My son, Tony, has a '00 Vette. We are a Corvette family. Take care. Ward

1964 Corvette Picture

Hello, Here is my '64 that I've owned for 14 years. The only matching numbers are the two license plates but it looks stock (I know, I know about the sidepipes but I had to have'em and the gas door emblem is incorrect) and runs real good. It's running a nice little 283 with the correct intake (390 Holley) and heads, a M21 and 3:36's. It was a retired racecar that I bought as a basketcase and put it back together. I added a VintageAir kit and can hardly wait for the snow to go so I can get back out on the road again. Hope you like it! Keep up the great work. Thanks, Bob

The car was bought by myself in 1973 from a marine that was still in southeast Asia... drove it 3 years and it has been sitting idle until about 4 years ago when I finally got the kids' braces paid for and then married off. Soon expecting a grandson...guess what he will grow up wanting? Chip Gunter

Here is my vette before and after I did all the work myself with from some of my friends. Now this car has a 502 crate motor.

This is my C2 Corvette, that I bought some months ago and try to restore in his original state with the help of the Zip-Products.com team. It is a 250 HP 327 base model with power brakes and original FM/AM Radio. Except the Exterior Colour which was Hermine White instead of Riverside Red and the master cylinder of the power brakes, the car is in his original state. VIN and other numbers are matching (except for the exterior trim of course). The car was built in may 1965 and immediately expedited to Belgium via General Motors Antwerp. The original owner sold the car in 1988 to his car dealer where it stayed almost untouched since then. This beauty has now 108000 Km and still runs as the best. The picture was taken on the july meeting of the Belgian Corvette Club at Knokke (Belgium). Greetings, Gerard Straetemans Belgium

She is absolutely beautiful. Riverside Red with knock-offs. 340 HP 327 and all matching numbers. I have had 11 Corvettes (C2's, C3's and C5's) over the years, but once I found this old girl, I was finished. But not to worry, she sits along side her stable mate, my 2001 Quicksilver Z06. Can't let her get lonely now can I? They don't write songs about Volvos. Rick Barnes

1965 Corvette Picture

Robert Todd e-mailed us some images of his non-matching numbers 1965 Corvette coupe. The body has been restored to stock, with the exception of the custom sidepipe covers and ’67 big-block hood, but the original engine has been replaced by a later-model small-block with the original Powerglide. "I like the period custom look of the American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels with 215-65-15s up front and 225-70-15s in the rear," Robert explained. "I also installed longer leaf spring end bolts on the rear to lower it a little." For exterior color, Robert used PPG DP-40 on the bare fiberglass, PPG K-36 Hi Build primer on top of that, K-36 with hardener, and blue tint for the final seal coat before the Deltron 2000 color coat and Concept 2020 Clear Coat. "Since I didn't know how to use this paint, I had some heavy wet sanding and buffing to do, but it came out really slick. Robert says he hopes to continue improving and restoring the ‘65 in the future.

Randy's 66 Stingray

66 Corvette Coupe. Sunfire yellow w/ black interior. 327 ci, 350 hp, 4 speed, pb, ps, pw and power antenna. Also has tinted windows, leather interior, heavy duty suspension, factory side exhausts and big block hood.

1963 Corvette Picture

This absolutely gorgeous original mid-year is part of my "olde automobile" collection that almost "wasn't to-be" part of that collection, since when I found this gem I was looking for and still am "hunting" that last Vette of the mid-year greats...a 1967 Tri-power 427/435hp Red roadster. However, this number matching '63 Fuel Car is equipped with the Hi-Performance 327/360hp engine coupled to a 4-speed Borg Warner T-10 and a 4:11 posi rear. Equipped with power windows, shaded glass, wonder bar radio, power brakes and flawless paint as well as spotless interior and engine compartment...this Vette grabs the judged-car trophies when shown in the US and Canada. This early '63 FUELIE drives like new, and when you dump the fuel to it (ie putting the pedal to the metal) it literally jumps and screams to the "finish-line". A fine example of GM engineering of yesteryear that has now achieved status as a true "American Icon". As a proud owner of this 1963 Split Window Vette, a 1964 Coupe 327/365hp and a 1967 Roadster 327/350hp, we participate in the many events that encompass Corvette lovers from all over this great land. Just thought I would drop a line. My wife and I have had a number of Corvettes over the years, and plan to have more as long as we can drive. The 1980 has been with the family for 16 years. We bought it from the original owners and have enjoyed it for many miles. The 1964 came along later and became the mid-year we had always wanted. We were thinking of adding a blue C5 or C6 convertible eventually to create a patriotic theme. Save the Wave! Larry Broden Denver, CO

1964 Stingray Corvette

Jeffs 1964 Stingray, purchased on Ebay 2/13/06 I made a few changes to my favorite ride. She was originally Ermine White with Red Interior, and a 327 engine. Now she is Riverside Red, with Black interior, and a 400 small block engine. She is driven to as many shows as i can get to in the summer, and she has never taken anything less than second place. What a rush it was to add this to my collection of Corvettes.
