Stopping The Corvette sunvisor Flop

Nothing is as annoying as driving your Corvette down the road and having the sunvisor flop down in front of you. You push it back up and it falls down again. After years of use, the sunvisors’ hinges lose their tension and will not stay in place. The sunvisors themselves also deteriorate and start to separate inside which adds to the problem. Our Project 77’s sunvisors were doing the dreaded sunvisor flop so we decided to replace them. The entire job took less than one hour from start to finish. It is a quick and easy fix, so let’s get started.
	01: Is this the only way you can keep your sunvisor in place?
	02: Here are the new sunvisors, arms and mounting hardware supplied by Zip. The only other things you will need are a few common hand tools and a little time.
	03: Use a small flat blade screwdriver to remove the sunvisor arm end cap. It will pry out easily.
	04: Remove the sunvisor arm retaining washer. This will have to be pried off. These cannot be re-used so you will need new ones.

	05: Pull the tension spring out with a pair of needlenose pliers.
	06: A flat punch and hammer can be used to tap the sunvisor arm out of the windshield mount.
	07: Install the new sunvisor arm into the sunvisor. Spread a small amount of white lithium grease on the elbow end. This will help lubricate the arm where its positioned in the windshield mount.
	08: With the sunvisor arm tapped into place in the windshield mount, slide the tension spring over the sunvisor elbow shaft. Now place the toothed retaining washer over the end of the shaft. Place a 1/4” drive 3/8” deep socket over the washer and use a hammer to tap it down onto the ridged portion of the sunvisor arm shaft. The washer will grip the ridges on the shaft while compressing the springs and put tension on the sunvisor arm.

09: Snap the end cap back into place.

10: There you have it! New sunvisors installed that not only look good, but stay where you put them.
