“It’s a very special year when you can go undefeated,” said Doug Duchardt, GM Racing director. “It’s great for the team to finally win at Laguna Seca and this was an amazing effort from the beginning until the end. We’re going to work very hard in the off season to continue with the Corvette C6-R in 2005.”
The four-hour race at beautiful Laguna Seca was a particularly fitting way to close the book on the C5-R’s illustrious career. When the green flag dropped at 4:00 pm it was sunny and warm but just a few ticks past the half way mark the sky turned an increasingly ominous crimson gray. Rain came with about a half hour to go, shuffling much of the field around as some cars slid off track and others made their way into the pits for wet weather tires.
