When Chevrolet’s C5-R factory road racer made its debut at Daytona in 1999 nobody envisioned where the car would end up. Six racing seasons later we know the answer to that question. Facing the most formidable opposition in the world from competitors that included the Oreca run factory Vipers, Saleen’s exotic S7R, factory supported Lamborghinis, and the ferociously fast Prodrive built 550 Ferraris, Corvette has risen to the absolute pinnacle of success both at home in the USA and in Europe.

Following its final race at historic Laguna Seca on october 16th the now retired Corvette racecars capped their remarkable season with another 1-2 victory in the GTS class. C5-R #3, driven by 2004 GTS driving co-champions Ron Fellows and Johnny O’Connell, roared across the finish line a scant .674 seconds ahead of teammates Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta in the #4 Corvette.
