The
bond between man and machine in our love affair with the car, and in particular
the Corvette, is more or less intimate. Perhaps that attachment is on the
more side whenever the man resurrects a Corvette from ashes.
We photographed
Larry Clevelands 56 one afternoon and never really stripped away
the layers. Later, we visited on the phone for more details. Only after we
finished our investigation did the walls come down.
We figured
Jerry Palmer, former C4 Corvette designer, knew. He picked this 56,
of all the cars at the big Labor Day show at the National Corvette Museum,
as his "celebrity choice" for an award. When we first saw the car
parked on the grounds, with people milling around, Palmer had just walked
up and engaged
