Talmage ran his 383 Lingenfelter and the Goochie Mobile through
the quarter-mile at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The
475-horsepower 383 ran consistent 11.4s. The twin-turbo 350, boasting 500 horsepower,
ran a best of 11.8 in three runs. "You need more technique with the twin
turbo," Talmage told us. "And since that was the first day I drove
the car, I felt very, very nervous. Finally, I turned the car over to John Lingenfelter
himself. He got it down to 11.4."
Both cars ran street tires. Obviously, the twin-turbo could have
used slicks, but the horsepower advantage at 500 was not overwhelming either.
