Drawing upon lessons learned last year and in 2000, the Pratt &
Miller-led team knew what to expect every step of the way and what to do to
maximize its chances for victory. For example, based on its stunning performance
at Le Mans Pre-qualifying on may 5, the Corvette folks knew there was little
they could do to keep Prodrive’s Ferrari off the pole, so they didn’t
waste time and effort chasing an ultra-fast lap. Instead, practice and qualifying
time was wisely utilized to fine-tune each car’s race set-up while the
many hours in between sessions were used to check, re-check, and double re-check
every detail.
