West Coast Corvette Challenge
Inspired by the Cartek Corvette Challenge in New Jersey,
Gary Brown has founded the West Coast Corvette Challenge drag racing series.
Brown explains, "We are a brand new, all-Corvette drag racing series
based in Southern California. We are modeling our series on the very
successful Cartek Corvette Challenge. I came up with the idea last march
and posted a thread on the Corvette Forum to see if anybody might be interested. Within
hours I had responses from not only here in Southern California but from all
around the country and, in particular, from Edgar Perez and John Mackey from
the Cartek Challenge. They have been extremely helpful in pointing us in the
right direction." The first West Coast Corvette Challenge drag racing
event was held may 4 at Los Angeles County Raceway with 12 cars in competition. Nearly
40 Corvettes attended the last event on june 29 at California Speedway. The
typical format includes test and tune sessions and friendly heads-up racing
in the morning, followed by a single-bracket elimination race in the afternoon.
Drivers can run any year, model, and configuration of Corvette, from "bone
to blown." Originally, three events were scheduled for 2002 but due to
the popularity, two more events have been added. For more information and
the schedule, check out the Website at www.corvettechallenge.com.
