LEFT: With everything removed, you can now get a look at the amount of dirt build-up in your throttle body. If there’s very little, a simple cleaning with an air intake cleaner will get the job done. Remember that most of the build up will be behind the throttle plates. Open the throttle plates to see what the backside looks like to make a true determination of the condition.

BELOW LEFT: Some people remove the screens on both ends of the MAF to increase performance. You can absolutely gain a few, okay, maybe two, horsepower this way. The real question is whether you’ll ever actually notice the gain. Remember, GM put it there for a reason.

BELOW RIGHT: Professional shops feel this is the best air intake cleaner on the market. Wynn’s Air Intake Cleaner uses chemicals that are different from regular carburetor cleaner. The problem is that it’s very difficult to locate in the average parts store. Wynn’s seems to have left the DIY market and concentrated on the professional technician. Your best bet is to try purchasing it from a store that serves the professional trade.
