We met up with the pair at last november’s Route 66 show in Joliet, Illinois,
where the NCCC was holding its regional autocross championships. Ron clicked
off the best time of the 50 Corvettes there on street tires. Both he and Susan
won their 3H classes, which is for non-stock C5s. Even more impressive are the
high-speed events where the Doug Rippie head and cam package really helps out.
Funny thing is, Rippie came looking for Ron because he had
the first ‘01 Z06 in Minnesota. Rippie is located in Minneapolis and was
looking for a Z06 for testing. Ron was all for the project, especially since
the work would be done in the winter months when he didn’t plan to drive
his new Z06 anyway.
"We didn’t want to change the valves in the car,"
said Rippie. "Part of that was for cost consideration. But we wanted to
