going to cover what are arguably the six best performance enhancements you can make to your C4 Corvette. All of these modifications will maintain reliability and you won’t have to apply for a second mortgage to purchase them.
We’ll list the modifications in the order of their recommended installation, assuming that you’re starting with a stock C4, and what you can expect from each. Most of the modifications can be done by anyone who has a little mechanical skill and some patience.
There are some things you need to know about your Corvette before you start planning your modifications. The computer systems in the different C4s are crucial, depending on the model year and engine. There are pros and cons for each model, so you really can’t say that there
is one model better than another. And there will always be an argument over which engine is better - the higher horsepower LT1 or the torque monster L-98.
Of course, other bolt-on modifications, like a nitrous oxide kit or a supercharger, can add larger horsepower gains, but they can be expensive and also complicated to install. All of the following modifications will not change the drivability of your Corvette, which I think is very important when deciding on what modifications to perform.
Gears
Unfortunately, the first recommended is one of the most expensive and cannot be done by most
at home. But you can certainly feel a high-performance differential through the seat of your pants. Selecting which one is best for you, though, can be the difficult part. You have to be honest with yourself on what you are expecting out of it and how you use your Corvette. If you drive mainly on the interstate, then you wouldn’t appreciate a super-low gear like a 4.10. For L-83 and the L-98 owners, I wouldn’t recommend going lower than a 3.54. These models make excellent torque
