the time qualifying rolled around, both the #3 and #4 Corvettes were dialed

As
expected, the #3 Ron Fellows/Johnny OConnell car was slightly faster
than the #4 Andy Pilgrim/Kelly Collins C5-R, primarily because it was running
the new six-speed transaxle in place of the old five-speed. Also as expected,
the Konrad Motorsport Saleen S7R was slightly faster than both Corvettes,
just as it has been all year. Unlike previous races, however, the Saleen failed
to win GTS pole. Instead, that honor went to the #3 C5-R. The Saleen likely
would have won the pole but the slower of its two drivers, team owner Franz
