september 15, with a message from Mike Yager, owner of Mid-America Designs in Effingham, Illinois. Sadly, we weren’t there in time. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on America just a few days earlier, our flight had been canceled the night before. But we got out the next morning and drove the 107 miles from St. Louis, arriving in Effingham at 12:30 pm.
   
Immediately, we circulated through the show grounds to get a feel of the mood. We ran across Paul and M.J. McConnell from Antioch, Illinois, walking down the fairly crowded midway.
