Period Custom ‘65

Robert Todd e-mailed us some before and after images of his non-matching numbers 1965 Corvette coupe. The body has been restored to stock, with the exception of the custom sidepipe covers and ’67 big-block hood, but the original engine has been replaced by a later-model small-block with the original Powerglide. "I like the period custom look of the American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels with 215-65-15s up front and 225-70-15s in the rear," Robert explained. "I also installed longer leaf spring end bolts on the rear to lower it a little." For exterior color, Robert used PPG DP-40 on the bare fiberglass, PPG K-36 Hi Build primer on top of that, K-36 with hardener, and blue tint for the final seal coat before the Deltron 2000 color coat and Concept 2020 Clear Coat. "Since I didn't know how to use this paint, I had some heavy wet sanding and buffing to do, but it came out really slick. Robert says he hopes to continue improving and restoring the ‘65 in the future.
