Lately,
show car people have been dumped on a lot. There’s this push to drive your
classic, so concours judging, to the uninformed, sounds like the problem,
not the solution.
Actually,
our most recent trip to the judging at the National Corvette Restorer’s Society
Regionals in Orlando last january was as refreshing as the sunny Florida weather
after four days snow-bound in the Texas Panhandle. Some explanation is necessary.
Many of the big-time shows these days don’t have concours
judging, preferring to “have fun.” They host thousands of Corvettes, and tens
of thousands of people pay to get in. Nobody will get their feelings hurt
by not getting a trophy for first in their class because there is no first
in class.
