It's
a fact of automotive life that certain parts of your Corvette will eventually
wear out and fail. This is particularly true with older Corvettes, which require
frequent maintenance to keep in good operating condition. The mechanical fuel
pump in earlier cars, like the C3s, is a prime example. I knew it was time
to replace the fuel pump on my '74 "driver" when the pump's diaphragm ruptured,
causing it to leak gas all over the garage and driveway to create a very real
fire hazard.
The
entire remove-and-replace job took less than three hours, including the installation
of the fuel filter. Basic tools are all that's required to remove the old
pump and install a new one, which we obtained via mail-order from Eckler's.
