Our first question
was how fast was this Lingenfelter 427 in the quarter-mile, especially since
our location was the Beech Bend Raceway Park drag strip in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Plus, Drews had a special weapon - John Lingenfelter himself, who was at Beech
Bend to give a seminar on drag racing. If anybody could get a good time, John
could with one of his own tuner cars.

Observing the launches, we noticed that Lingenfelter couldnt get the radials
to hook up. The tires smoked through first and the start of second and third
gears. Obviously, Alans 427 needed a set of slicks to take advantage of
