We met Newman at Carlisle last year where he had his C1/C4 hybrid chassis on display alongside Dr. Long’s black ‘58 Corvette. Both were fitted with the late-model LT4 small-block and the ZF 6-speed

Newman’s first ‘62 prototype had a stock 327/4-speed...

transmission. The ‘58 does go a little further than most conversions with humongous rear wheels and tires. The C1/C4 chassis accepts 8 ½-inch wheels without body mods. Long had to widen the rear body to accept the 11-inch wide ZR1 wheels shod with massive P315/40/17s.

The result is truly a ‘58 dream

From this point forward, Newman chops off the frame rails and inserts the frame into a jig for the new rails, engineered to accept the C4 suspension up front.
Paul bolts the stock C4 Corvette rear disc caliper assembly to the C1 frame.
