
Albert Chlouber was the first in the nines with his Viper, running a 9.99/142. Obviously, he got the Stage 2 nitrous system working just right.

Heidaker
was the favorite because he was fastest last year and has been edging into
the 9.90s since 1997. But Chlouber might beat everybody if he could get his
2-stage nitrous system working to perfection. Early in the time trials, Albert
clicked off a 10.54/137. Meanwhile, a blue 92 Corvette surprised the
crowd with a 10.27/139.49 MPH. Where did he come from?
It

he was more drag racer than the other
