Only
1,000 Grand Sport Corvettes were produced in 1996 – 810 coupes and 190 convertibles.
The limited production, with each car numbered, along with the
always-popular performance
image, created instant collectible status for the Grand Sports.
Guy
Harby Jr., from Wantage, NJ, owns the 59th Grand Sport built, which
leads Guy to believe that his may be the first Grand Sport convertible produced.
It’s a well-maintained 38,000-mile example, modified only by a B&B Tri-Flo
exhaust to improve the LT4’s breathing and aftermarket sill plates. Guy also
replaced the original tires with larger BFGs, 275/40ZR17s on the front and more
coupe-like 315/35ZR17s on the rear.
Guy’s
Grand Sport convertible is a prime example a special Corvette that was created
to fill the gap between the last of the C4s and the first C5s.
