differential
gears, faulty induction filtration, and inadequate tires were some of the problems
that kept Team Corvette off the podium.
Undaunted,
the team returned in february 2000 for another bite at the apple. This time,
both cars (the same two that competed the previous year) were wearing new Millennium
Yellow paint schemes. They were also wearing dozens of improvements, including
better tires, larger and more powerful engines, strengthened differentials,
and improved suspensions.
All
of the development work accomplished in 1999 made the cars much more competitive
in 2000. The #4 Corvette had only minor problems and the #3 car ran the entire
24 hours without the hood ever coming off. When it was all over, the #3 Corvette
finished only 30 seconds behind the lead Viper. The second-place showing was
heartbreaking for Corvette fans but nobody was disappointed with the level of
excitement the contest provided.
