and the other a 427. After all, in 1962 the Z06 arrived just at the time of
the Shelby creation with Ford power.
The
Z06's history is long, as detailed in a 24-page “Technical Notes And Program
Review” of the 1963 A Production Racing Sting Ray #614, assembled in 1963-65
by Washburn Chevrolet in Santa Barbara, California. This is where Vic spotted
the car in 1985 in the back of Bob Joehnck’s shop. This is the same Bob Joehnck
who saw an opportunity in 1964 to develop an intake for the small-block Chevy.
Vic’s initial response was “No, the factory already makes a manifold.” He changed
his mind a week later and the C-4B manifold became another turning point for
the Edelbrock Equipment Company.
In
1962, Shelly Washburn, owner of Washburn Chevrolet, bought this Z06 Corvette
and set up a racing team with Joehnck as manager and Bob
