might manage to find even more horsepower than he’d had from those twin turbos
because performance was improving as the 1990s advanced.
To
get the ball rolling, McKeon gave Corvette Mike a return call. Vietro, in 1993,
was the West Coast franchise for Callaway’s Aero kits, so Mike would sell and
install an Aero body. Tim also added a set of ZR1 wheels, perhaps in tribute
to the ZR1 he’d owned prior to the ‘91 Callaway.
Thus
assured, McKeon looked into an engine upgrade and found a likely candidate from
Lingenfelter Performance Engineering in Indiana. Tim liked their 383 stroker
engine, which perhaps not so oddly was the same cubic-inch size used by the
new Supernatural Callaway.
With
the previous generation small-block, the twin turbo Callaway delivered 403 horsepower
at 4,500 rpm. With the 383 Lingenfelter engine, which included internal engine
mods and not just top end components, Tim would have 440 horses.
