would pull ahead in slightly less than an hour and, if it could stay
out of trouble for another two-and-a-half hours, go on to take the checkered
flag.
At
10:31 AM on Sunday, Chevy’s #2 entry passed Dyson’s 598-lap total and seized
the lead. At that point, the Corvette was clearly the fastest car on the racetrack,
way ahead of the miscellaneous crippled prototypes still running and 18 laps
ahead of the second-place Porsche GT3R.

Sunday morning, all of the GTS class competitors had trailed off. Saleen’s controversial
S7R went out early with what appeared to be suspension failure. One of Dodge’s
previously dominant Vipers, in the hands of Chamberlain Motorsports, was more
than 100 laps down while the other lasted only 45 laps. After looking strong
