System.
Similar in concept to the rear brake cooling scoops on the Z06 Corvette, the
Breathless scoops channel outside air onto the back of the rotors to keep them
cooler for improved braking performance during road racing or spirited street
driving. The scoops, which are manufactured from fiberglass in the Breathless
facility, install into the rear rocker panels and connect to ducts that force
the incoming air onto the back of the brakes. According to Ernie, the Breathless
kit will come with templates to precisely cut the openings in the rockers and
to trim the plastic inner fenders. The scoops, which come ready to paint to
match the body color, can then be installed with the supplied adhesive.
The
main components of the Breathless Performance Rear Brake Air Channeling Duct
System are these external scoops. Although similar to the Z06 scoops, the
Breathless Performance versions are slightly larger and feature more of a
“channel” into the opening.
Using
the same clay molding process as the major auto manufacturers, Breathless created
the brake cooling scoops on their in-house C5 project vehicle. The molds for
the fiberglass scoops were created from the clay forms.
