The
DOHC LT5 retains the stock engineering features. Mainly, Lingenfelter upped
the cubes to 368, cut back the compression ratio to 8.0:1, ported and polished
the heads, switched to a turbo cam, installed special liners, and blueprinted
the rotating assembly.
The
stock 6-speed is equipped with a McLeod twin-disc clutch to handle the increased
power. The suspension is also slightly modified for the awesome power and
torque. A special chip for the suspension controller flips the shocks to the
soft setting, with no compression damping, so the rear end will squat for
good weight transfer.
Dehnert
commented, "If I dont have slicks on it, I can be driving along
in fourth gear at 50 mph and spin the rear tires when the turbos spool up."
