Kirchhofer got involved with LT5s five years ago. "It was a natural for me. All I had to do was learn the motor and get the special tools and equipment to work on them. There was a huge void as far as anyone making tools."

To fill the void, Kirchhofer started making the tools he needed, such as a crank locking device to set the OEM timing. Degreeing four overhead cams, he told us, is about a three-and-a-half hour job.

He struck up a friendship with Jeal, which turned into a business relationship. "Because of all my connections with machine shops and parts, I’d do the engine kits, design flywheels, set up differentials, do the porting and timing. Jeal takes care of cams and headers. We try to compliment one another."
