OConnell Corvette leads the pack going into turn 11 at Sears Point.
The car was fast and ran flawlessly despite a number of significant mechanical
changes including substitution of a six-speed transaxle in place of the previously
used five-speed transmission and conventional differential.
BELOW LEFT: The Andy Pilgrim/Kelly Collins #4 C5-R was not quite as fast as its sister ship but it still managed to stay ahead of the Vipers and Saleen to take second in the GTS class.
Rs, campaigned by American
Viper Racing, brought up the rear of the class in fourth and fifth.
As
in all of the races so far this year, the Vipers were well behind the pace
at Sears Point. Not surprisingly, the privateer teams both here in the U.S.
and abroad have not realized the same level of success that the factory-supported
Oreca Viper team enjoyed in past
