We wanted to know what it felt like to take a grocery-getter Corvette and hit 200 MPH on the track like some kind of NASCAR racer. Weir was honest, “When you hit the 180 mark, you start pinching the seats, if you know what I mean, and hanging on. When that thing popped up double zero on that heads-up display, it gave me a sense of wonder.”

The Heads Up Display, RPO UV6 (Bill switched to the speedometer gauge only), came in handy for con-centration. Weir didn’t have to take his eyes off the rapidly advancing track. “The only time I looked down was right before I let off on the throttle. I wanted to see what kind of rpms I was turning and it was about 5,500.”
