Meanwhile, Friday night’s NCM Hall of Fame induction dinner was a direct tie-in. The NCM inducted Jerry Palmer (Corvette designer), along with late 1950s/early 1960s road racers Dr. Dick Thompson and John Fitch. Thompson and Fitch mixed with many other drivers over the weekend to give enthusiasts an opportunity to relive the golden era of Corvette racing. Other legendary drivers included Bob Johnson, Bud Gates, Jim Jeffords, Dick Guldstrand, and Tony DeLorenzo. In many cases, we got to talk to the driver, inspect the car he drove, and relive stories with the current owner and, in some cases, the original builder.
