Over
the Labor Day weekend, the National Corvette Museum hosted one of the finest
Corvette shows we’ve ever attended. By no means a large show in terms of numbers
of cars and people, this year’s Millennium Celebration was special because
it included seminars, autocrossing, drag racing, Corvette Assembly Plant tours,
the induction of three new members into the Corvette Hall of Fame, the introduction
of the 2001 Corvette, a car show, and much more.
The
most special event was the NCM’s “Concours d’Performance” display of vintage
racing Corvettes, most from the 1950s and 1960s. These cars are not part of
the museum, which is indoors in the main building. Displayed outdoors under
tents, the grand idea was to bring together the cars and their drivers with
the current owners. The display was a huge 41-car success,
