performance applications. These rods were equipped with 3/8-inch rod bolts and were identical to the rods used in the 427/435 HP engine. In 1969, the L-88 engines were equipped with a connecting rod with a new 7/16-inch bolt rod that had a ground shank.

Another change in 1969 was the switch to a double-pumper Holley carburetor. In 1967 the L-88 carburetor number was a Holley #R3418/Chevrolet #3886091. The 1968 L-88 carburetor number was Holley #4054/Chevrolet #3925519. These carburetors had 850 cfm and were equipped with vacuum secondaries and no choke. The 1969 carb still flowed 850 cfm, but featured mechanical secondaries and dual accelerator pumps. This carburetor significantly increased throttle response and enhanced acceleration. The 1969 carburetor number was either a Holley #R4054/Chevrolet
The L-88 came with a cowl induction hood and can be recognized by the 427 emblems on the side. It works very similar to the 1969 Z28 hood although it does not incorporate a solenoid flapper at the base of windshield.
