next to this sign on the side of our building and take pictures,” explained Steve Weidman, Mid America’s executive vice-president.

Steve had agreed to give me a tour of the complex as the Corvettes filed into the parking lot and the surrounding mowed fields on Saturday morning. Officially, the show kicked off Friday, but Saturday is the big day. The weather was absolutely perfect. The sun was out, but not hot, and a cool breeze wafted over the place. There is enough land here to park 10,000 Corvettes.

I found Weidman’s personalized tour like two steps forward and one
Top: This ‘66 Sting Ray was a family affair. Mark and Laura Zervas and their kids were happy to make the winner’s circle to receive an award at Mid-America's Funfest 2000.

Bottom: The GTP Corvette was one of the hot attractions at the GM display. GM owns two of these cars, this Cosworth V8 #22 and a #52 car with a turbo V6. Rick Hendricks has the third example in his garage.
