If
at first glance you get a strange feeling of having already seen Larry Phillips’
1999 coupe, you’ve experienced a case of dejà vu. More than one Corvette enthusiast
has done a double-take over the silver cove in Larry’s C5. His favorite classic
Corvette is the ‘61, especially in Jewel Blue with a silver cove. To retain
that look in his 1999 Corvette, Phillips hired Larry Taylor of Taylor’s House
Of Colors in Louisville, Kentucky, to install fiberglass inserts (from R.K.
Sports) and paint the graphics to resemble a classic ‘61 in side profile.
Now
get ready for a third-take. Just above the gills on each front fender is a
much more subtle graphic, “Mallett 396,” indicating that Larry’s ’99 is a
specialty Corvette from Mallet Cars, an aftermarket tuner that creates the
Mallet 396 and Mallet 435 Corvettes. Obviously, Mallett has capitalized on
