much.
After all, he’s seen wine freeze in his cellar back home. After much small talk,
Hendrickson makes a deal and the next day drives his Kokiak tractor/trailer
rig south 120 miles to pick up the car at Perkle’s place in Wichita Falls.
What
he finds in northern Texas is a
truly stunning Corvette with only 20,000 miles. The story unwinds that Perkle
bought the car in the early 1980s when it had 11,000 miles. At that time, he
pulled the original Firestone 6.70 – 15 tires and hermetically sealed them for
long-term storage. They go with the car. Under the hood, Steve spots the 270-horse
dual-quad 283, which is essentially the fuelie motor without the sprinkler system.
In other words, it has the same cam, solid lifters, and compression ratio, but
up top it's got the dual four WCFBs. They are intact and, like the rest of the
car, completely original.
