Before this can be done, the program has to be set up for the vehicle to be
checked. In most cases, this is a no-brainer because the program automatically
scans the PCM for the VIN code. Once acquired, the VIN tells AutoTap the vehicles
year and model, which it translates into the specific sensor inputs that can
be displayed. Following this operation, the program checks for stored Diagnostic
Trouble Codes and Freeze Frame data. (A Freeze Frame is a page of values that
is stored at the time a Diagnostic Trouble Code is set.) If any trouble codes
are stored, AutoTap can be used to reset them.
Rather than attempting to catch data on the fly, the best
way to troubleshoot a problem is to use AutoTaps data logging capability.
