Three
road racing series allow nearly stock Corvettes to compete against other exotic
sports cars. They are the SpeedVision GT, SCCAs amateur T-1 class and
the Motorola Cup. Of the three, only the Motorola Cup allows Corvettes to
compete in two countries, Canada and the United States. At Sebring International
Raceway the second round of the series took place on march 19, 2000. Out of
sixty-six cars that qualified for this 3-hour enduro, eight were C-5 Corvettes
and five of that eight were among the six fastest cars in the field.
Veteran driver, crew chief and retired-GM engineer Danny
Kellermeyer joined Reed Knights KAC Technologies Corvette team as Crew
Chief for this event. KAC entered two Corvettes for the Motorola Cup. Car
#08 was the same car that finished 10th at the Daytona opening
and was driven by Amos Johnson and Randy Pobst. The second car was the #81
T-1 showroom stock coupe driven by World Challenge star Sean Roe and Ron Grimm.
Danny and his crew were able to prepare the #08 car well enough to post the
fastest lap and pole position with a time of 2:19.626 at 95.367
