So how do you upgrade while keeping that OE appearance? The folks at Pertronix have a solution for your ignition problems. It’s called the Ignitor solid-state electronic ignition system.
This system is an epoxy-sealed self-contained unit within the distributor and gives no outward appearance of being anything but OE. Performance increases of 20 horsepower have been reported and test results show that the Ignitor delivers twice the voltage to the spark plugs. It carries a 30-month warranty and is legal in all 50 states.
The new Ignitor lobe-fired system we installed was as simple as removing two screws along with the points and condenser, bolting on the sensor, contacting two wires and the task is done. It took no more than ten minutes to do the installation.
In addition to the Ignitor, Pertronix also sent us their Flame-Thrower hi-performance coil and 8.0mm MAGx2 plug wires. This coil delivers a maximum of 40,000 volts, and in conjunction with the Ignitor, tests have shown a 15% increase in voltage to the plugs along with improved gas mileage and performance. It comes with a 90-day warranty.
