The
Delco-Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson, Indiana manufactured all
Corvette distributors from 1955 through 1982. There were two plants involved
in producing ignition components at Delco-Remy. Plant 10: All conventional
(point-type) distributors and ignition coils were built at Plant number ten
while all ignition amplifiers and capacitor discharge ignition systems were
assembled at Plant number six. All HEI ignition systems and the newly developed
(late model) Direct Ignition Systems were assembled at Plant number twenty.
Delco built a variety of distributor component combinations
that were used from 1955 through 1982. All distributors were of cast iron
construction until 1962 when the die-cast aluminum 4- and 6-cylinder models
were released. There were "Bowl" and "Non-Bowl" distributors
produced in both aluminum and cast iron. Early distributors had an external
