After removing the screws on the side of the console, remove the console itself. Removal of the air controls should not be necessary.

With an automatic transmission, remove the button on top of the shifter, then unscrew the shifter knob. Next, remove the four shifter console screws, then remove the panel. Be sure to remove the ashtray/change holder first; this photo was taken seconds before spilling the entire contents onto the floor.
