New Pistons
   
Cast from high-strength M142 aluminum alloy, the LS6 pistons are reshaped with a slightly different profile from those in the LS1. In a side view, the LS6 pistons have a slight barrel shape, which is almost imperceptible to the naked eye. The new alloy increases engine durability during racing activities, while the shape reduces internal mechanical noise.

The new LS6 was named in honor of the original LS6, which was a 425-horsepower version of the 454 for the 1971 Corvette. Only 188 were sold.
