
rebuilding the parking brakes and suspension.
The greasy work was followed by wet sanding and
buffing the paint, then stripping, wet-sanding, and hand-polishing the wheels.
Finally, attention turned to the much-neglected interior. Jim and Arlene completely
gutted the cockpit and replaced the carpet, dash, and console components; re-dyed
all hard and soft plastic pieces; replaced all the weatherstripping; and ultimately
brought the car to its current showroom condition. The most difficult part,
they say, was locating correct ’82 parts.
Since completing the work, Jim and Arlene have
kept the tires warm. The car is driven from april through november, and is a
steady and successful competitor in Corvette shows throughout the Northeast.
Since its debut showing in 1998, the red-on-red coupe has won 16 trophies, including
13 for First Place.
“Owning this car has afforded us the opportunity of
doing something together that we both like, and has made us closer as a couple,”
Jim explained.
Evidently, this particular snap purchase was right
